An Evening Out In My Favourite Town Mombasa

One of the things I love doing is going out, be it a night out with my friends or an evening walk with my girlfriend watching the sun set in the horizon. Going out does not just introduce me to new hangout joints, but it also broadens my knowledge on my home town city.

My favourite town to go out in is Mombasa in Kenya. Apart from giving me a wide range of restaurants and clubs to hit, it allows me to experience first-hand prehistoric monuments like the Vasco da gamma monument. Surfing, boat riding and dip sea diving are my favourite water activities. Dip sea diving allows me to appreciate the underworld and see the different types of fish that are rare to see in areas near the shores, other than that, am able to spot wreckages of ship that capsized a long time ago but remain underwater.

Out of the water I love participating in beach volleyball which is a very common sport here while sun bathing in the white sandy beaches. Mombasa is bordered by two national parks, Tsavo and Amboselli, during the days I enjoyed going to one of this magnificent park for a leisure walk or a game drive. This park are just a stone throw away from Mombasa and me with my friends enjoyed their camping facilities which are second to none.

Mombasa is one of the cheapest fun filled holiday destination I ever visited. I do not have to worry about exorbitant travel charges or even the inflated accommodation charges. This allows me to rest easy when I prepare to go out as the cost won’t leave holes in my pocket. The minimum charge for a cab or a taxi for a distance of 3 kilometres is around 300 Kenya shillings which is equivalent to 4 us dollars.

Most of the time though I prefer to use public service vehicles which only charge quarter the amount charged by the cabs for the same distance. Boat riding fee is a bit expensive as a boat ride for a distance of about 1kilometre radius costs 500 Kenya shillings or 6 us dollars. Accommodation in a 3,4,5 star hotels vary. A 3 star hotel charges around 2000 per night/25 us dollars, a 4 star hotels charges 3000 Kenya shillings 38 us dollars while a 5 star hotel charges around 4500 Kenya shillings/57 us dollars per night and with room service. Food is very cheap and 6 slices of pizza go for 500 Kenya shillings/6 us dollars. Evenings out will always land me in a bar and beers go for as little as 150 Kenya shillings/2 us dollars.

I have a favourite night club and a favourite restaurant. My favourite restaurant is traveller’s beach resort, apart from being pocket friendly the restaurant hosts cultural nights every week. This helps me a lot in learning new cultures and eating traditional foods which are not served in other restaurants. My favourite night club is club Lambada. Its located in the outskirts of Mombasa under serene environment, apart from the occasional slow music they play, their waiters are very professional and this allows me to unwind from my very demanding daily schedules.
