A Weekend in Durban, South Africa

I had been wondering over a long period of time the best place to spend a weekend in the South African Territory until a friend tricked me into visit ting Durban city. Honestly speaking I never knew it was such a nice place with the perfect weather and lots of places to visit. Well, to cut the long story short, I would rather trick somebody else to visit Durban than any other place.

The hotel experience

After arriving for a weekend in Durban on Friday night, I booked into one of the exclusive hotels in the city. Yes, I say the best because of what I discovered. The Hilton Hotel Durban located in the vast Indian Ocean waters gave more than I expected. Since I wanted something unique, I paid for the luxury suites with an executive room. The Guest servicing was of the best and highest quality with an ideal excellence in the services. And since I wanted to catch on what is found in nearby areas, the internet access in the room proved an important part as I enjoyed the night away. Being a visitor with no knowledge within, I had no problems finding the perfect dinner. I had to take the favourite meal of fish meal. After the meal I headed for the Rivets bar as I mingled with people, with cocktails to wash down.

The beach experience

After a heavy breakfast in the morning it was time to sample some of the beaches in Durban. I just discovered the weather can be tempting so around 10 A.M in the morning, I headed out of my hotel into the South Beach. Now the thing that struck me here was the golden sand along the beach which is locally called Golden Mile. During my weekend in Durban, I watched and participated in surfing, swimming and body boarding. Though I was afraid of the sharks, I discovered the beach is well protected with nets to keep away the sharks from attacking revellers. The seaside of Durban city also called the eThekwini by local is the perfect gateway for sea play.

Local meals and food

A weekend in Durban can pass without one feeling hungry due to the experience but I did not want to travel back home without sampling some local dishes. A little secret on the foods is visiting the Florida road in Durban for your meal. I picked the Duck meal over the chicken. There I was eating the duck meat, sweet, spiced up and curried at an affordable price. The spinach extra also worked wonders. I had to return in the evening at the Sunrise House specializing in Indian recipe, a bite of bunnies with rotis. This I ordered with beans and cheese.

Night life

On Saturday evening, the night life is an excellent experience and excitement. I decided not to waste the evening and headed to the Characters pub located inside the city at the Umhlanga area. I had to take on some dinner first before ordering the booze with sundown tunes coming from the music system. This was till early hours of the morning. Meeting new people and knowing their life and characters was a perfect night out at Characters bar and restaurant.

Before travelling back to my village, I visited the Heritage Market. With various malls selling different wares, I picked on the jewellery with a custom made diamond chain in remembrance of a weekend in Durban, though I had actually used half of my savings. No regrets for the special weekend in Durban.
